Southern Hawker

Another Odonata for yesterday (missed due to long day at work). This magnificent specimen was hanging around the bottom of the garden back in July. It's a male Southern Hawker, Aeshna cyanea.
It lays eggs on dead material in the pond which hatch the following spring. The following year they emerge from June onwards, flying as late as October.
